Why is my drive time longer than I asked for?

There may be cases where the preferred daily drive limit you set in Autopilot is too low for what is required to travel to your destination.

For example, let’s say you use Autopilot to plan the following trip:

  • Visiting a destination 500 miles away
  • Traveling for 4 days total
  • Prefer to drive no more than 100 miles a day

Given the distance to your destination and amount of days on your trip, you will need to drive an average of 125 miles a day before arriving at your destination. However, this exceeds the preferred limit of driving no more than 100 miles a day.

In this case, Autopilot will generate a trip lasting 4 days, and show a warning that your preferred driving limit could not be followed.

If this happens, and you would like Autopilot to follow your preferred driving limit, consider doing one or more of the following:

  • Add additional dates to your trip
  • Choose a destination closer to your origin
  • Increase the preferred daily drive limit
