Why didn't Autopilot suggest spending a day at my destination?

There may be cases where there is not enough time on a trip to recommend an entire day at your destination.

For example, let’s say Autopilot is used to plan the following trip:

  • A round trip to a destination 1200 miles away (2400 miles total)
  • Traveling for 4 days total
  • Prefer to drive no more than 600 miles a day

Given the distance to the destination, the amount of days spent traveling, and that it is a round trip, all 4 days will be needed to allow for enough time to drive to and from the destination.

In this case, Autopilot will generate a trip lasting 4 days, with about 600 miles of driving each day, and show a warning that there was not enough time allotted for an entire day to be spent at your destination.

If this happens, and you would like Autopilot to recommend a full day at your destination, consider doing on or more of the following:

  • Add additional dates to your trip
  • Choose a destination closer to your origin
  • Increase the preferred daily drive limit
