Welcome to the New Look of Roadtrippers!
If you've been with us for a while, you'll notice that our trip planner looks a little different than you're used to. We’ve redesigned Roadtrippers to make it more intuitive and enjoyable to use. While some features may look a little different, they're still here and we’re here to help you adjust quickly so you can get back to planning your next trip.
What’s New?
Here are some of the key updates to look out for:
- Streamlined Trip Planning: Menus are now streamlined, and key tools are more accessible. It's easy to manage your trip settings, view trip stats, invite collaborators, and more.
- Updated Category and Search: These features have been combined in the Explore tab, making it easy to go from working on your itinerary to finding more places to stop.
- Fresh Look for Trip Itineraries: We’ve modernized the design, making it clearer and simpler to use. The waypoint cards can be expanded to access quick actions or collapsed for a more condensed view.
Before and After: A Visual Guide
To help you find your way, below are some before and after screenshots of some of the key pieces of the trip planner that got a refresh.
Trip Planner on Roadtrippers.com
Use the tabs below to compare a full view of the trip planner from before and after. We'll dive into the details below, but a big change here is the new Itinerary | Details | Explore tabs in the trip panel. These give you quick access to all the tools to manage your trip.
At the top of every tab, you'll see a few easy-access buttons for the following:
|
Ready for the details? Expand the sections below for annotated screenshots and a detailed breakdown of what you can do from each tab.
The Itinerary tab is where you'll find all the stops added to your trip, including a daily breakdown if you've added dates to your trip. You can manage waypoint details here, like adding notes or budget details, as well as remove and rearrange waypoints. If you know a place you want to add to your trip, you can use the Add Waypoint buttons here to search for and add it. You've also got quick action buttons at the top of the itinerary for doing things like updating routing options, viewing the trip guide, duplicating the trip, and more.
- Use the arrows to scroll through quick action buttons at the top of the itinerary.
- If you've added dates to your trip, you'll see a daily total right below each date.
- Click the expand/collapse icon at the right side of waypoint cards to access waypoint quick actions or condense the view.
- Distance and drive time estimates are listed between every waypoint.
- After expanding a waypoint card, click the routed/unrouted toggle to remove a place from the route but keep it listed in your itinerary.
- After expanding a waypoint card, click the three dots to access quick actions for the waypoint.
- If you've added dates to your trip, you can click the blue Add circle to the right of a date to add another stop to that date.
- Click and hold the dots to the left of a waypoint card to grab it, then drag and drop it in the itinerary to move it to a new position.
- Click anywhere on a waypoint card (except the expand/collapse arrow) to open the waypoint details where you can add notes, budget, reservation details, etc.
- If you don't have dates in your trip, this is the only Add Waypoint button you'll see. If you do have dates, you'll see this in addition to the one described above. Click this to add places to your trip by searching for a point of interest by name or by searching for a street address. If you have dates in your trip and you use this button, we'll use our logic to automatically assign the waypoint to a date on your trip, and you can edit the date afterward.
The Details tab is where you can view your trip stats. This tab shows the total number of waypoints, total estimated driving time, total estimated distance, and estimated cost of gas + budgets added to your waypoints. You can also invite collaborators and add or edit your vehicle here.
We previously had 1 estimated cost for trips, and now you'll find 2 estimates in the Details tab. Number 1 in the screenshot below is the total estimated cost including our fuel estimate and any budgets you've added to waypoints. Number 2 is just the fuel estimate. If you haven't added budgets to any waypoints then these estimates will be the same.
The Explore tab is the new spot for discovery. You can apply categories to the map and browse all sorts of places near your route. The names of categories are listed instead of just icons, making it easier to see what the options are. After selecting a category, you can apply filters to narrow down the results and now you can add places to your trip or your favorites right from the category results.
- Click "Filter" after selecting a category to get more specific about the type of place you're looking for.
- Click anywhere on the location card (except for the add or heart icon) to go to the place page where you can find more details about the point of interest.
- Click the plus sign to add the place to your trip. If the place is already on your trip, you'll see a checkmark instead of a plus sign and clicking the checkmark.
- Click the heart icon to add the place to your saved places, so that you can easily find it again later.
- Use the radius slider at the bottom of the tab to adjust how far off the route you want to see results for. As you slide it left to right, the route shade will shrink or expand and the category results will update accordingly.
Trip Planner in Mobile Apps
The Search & Explore features on the map view in mobile apps are largely unchanged. You'll still turn categories on by going to the Map view and tapping in the Search & Explore bar.
The trip planner view is where you'll notice a refreshed Itinerary and a new Details tab. This is a similar experience to the updated website trip panel described above.
First, take a look at before and after screenshots of the mobile trip planner to see the visual differences. You can click the tabs below to see screenshots from iOS and Android.
