If you have a sense of how far you’d like to travel before stopping - whether for the night, a rest break, or a meal - Roadtrippers can help you find the perfect place along the way.
Just set the distance you’d like to drive from a waypoint in your trip, and we’ll show you where that distance is, as well as options for places to stop along your route.
Measure Tool
The easiest way to measure drive time and visualize where to stop is by clicking the Measure tool button (pencil/ruler icon) in the button grid at the top of the itinerary panel.
Then select the stop you want to measure from or search for the stop by name if you've got a long list.
Click Next, then enter how long you want to drive from that stop. You can use the dropdown to switch between hours or distance (miles or kilometers).
After entering your preference, click Calculate, and the map will zoom into the measured point on your route. You can edit the drive length and recalculate to see the difference between various distances to help you make a decision.
After measuring how far your drive length will get you, it's time to find a place to stop in that area. Click the Search and Explore bar at the top of the map to browse campgrounds, hotels, restaurants, and more! If you're not ready to browse and choose a place yet, you can add a nearby city as a stop or drop a pin.

Helpful Details
- One measurement at a time: If you measure from a new waypoint, your previous measurement will be replaced. It's not possible to set multiple measurements at the same time
- Decimal support: You can enter up to two decimal points (e.g., 5.5 or 5.25 hours instead of 6).
- Edit a measurement: If you're still on the "How long do you want to drive?" screen, edit the measurement and click Calculate again. Otherwise, click the pencil next to the measurement pin on the map.
- Remove a measurement: Click the pencil next to the measurement pin on the map and click "Remove measurement from route".
- Waypoints must be routed: You cannot measure from waypoints that are not part of the driving route. Routed waypoints are numbered.
-
Clearer map view: If you want a better view of cities and towns, try toggling Places OFF in your map settings. This will remove general place suggestions, making it easier to see the area surrounding your measurement pin.
