What does "Reroute" Do?

If you're consistently receiving a routing error or you notice the route line is missing from part of your trip, you can use the Reroute Trip button. It will look for routing problems and attempt to fix the route.

Note that rerouting your trip could drastically change the path of your trip. However, if the trip cannot be rerouted then no change will occur. If we've updated the coordinates for a waypoint since you first added it to your trip or if the status of a road has changed (opened or closed for any reason), rerouting the trip will update the location and route within your trip.

What Reroute Does Not Do

Rerouting your trip will not reorder your stops to make the route more efficient. Reroute simply checks your current itinerary for routing errors and updates the directions between your existing stops if it can find any corrections. It does not rearrange them for the shortest travel sequence.

When you’re adding new stops to a trip, they will be placed in the itinerary in the most efficient order. That said, it might not be the order you want or if you're planning with dates, you have more control over the order than Roadtrippers.

Tip: Keep an eye on your route as you build it. The trip planner will suggest an efficient order, and you can adjust the order as needed. Don’t wait until you’ve added dozens of stops before reviewing the route.
