Can’t drag your route where you want? Here’s why

If the planner keeps rerouting you when you try to customize your route by dragging it to a different road, it’s likely because that road is temporarily closed or closed for the season.

If your trip is planned for a later date and the road is likely to be open by then, you can use our reroute tool closer to your departure to refresh your route based on current road conditions. If the road is still closed at that time, the route will remain unchanged.

Below are a few popular U.S. routes currently affected by temporary closures. If you try to plan a route along any of these roads, Roadtrippers will automatically reroute you.

  • Pacific Coast Highway (HWY 1), California: A major section of Highway One between Esalen Institute and Lucia near Big Sur, California remains closed due to landslides and ongoing repairs. There is currently no anticipated date for the full opening of Highway 1 at Regent's Slide. (See here for the most up to date information.

  • Blue Ridge Parkway, North Carolina: Several sections of the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina remain closed due to damage from Hurricane Helene. For the most up-to-date information, visit the National Park Service's road closures page.
